YADisclaimer- I do not own the song 'I Caught Fire (In Your Eyes)' by The Used, nor do I own you, I don't even own the plot, Jess does *laughs*
~Seemed to stop my breath
My head on your chest
Waiting to cave in
From the bottom of my…~
Walking down the street of Central you watch all the happy faces pass by, all the couples holding hands, and it makes you want to cry. You had just lost your best friend, your secret love, and it felt like you’d never be the same.
He had been on an assignment with Al when he just….disappeared. Nobody knows where he went or what happened to him, not even Al knows. So they all just assumed him to be dead.
You had been staying in Central waiting for them to return, but when Al returned and Ed didn’t, your world came crashing in around you. You had developed feelings for the blonde haired, hot tempered boy and you were going to tell him when he got back but, no such luck.
Currently you and Al were walking down the streets of Central to the train station; you were heading back home, back to Reizembool. Since you and Al had no more ties to the military you were able to go home. But home isn’t home with out Ed.
~Hear your voice again
Could we dim the sun
And wonder where we’ve been
Maybe you and me~
You reach the train station and buy two ticks to Reizembool. You’re going home for good this time. You and Al sit down on a bench waiting for the train to arrive, you see a boy with a braid and blonde hair and you immediately thing ‘Ed’. But when he said something you knew it wasn’t Ed.
What you wouldn’t give to hear Ed’s voice one more time. Even though most of the time he was yelling either at Mustang or random people that called him short, his voice was still like music to your ears. And you missed it.
The train finally pulls into the station. You and Al give your luggage to the Luggage Collectors and board the train. You find an empty seat by a window. Al sits down next to you. He’s been very quiet ever since he came back from the assignment.
Al always the happy one, always kept your spirits high, now he’s just as sad as you are. Glancing over at the man who had once been a suit of armor you can’t help but give a small smile, at least you still have one of the Elrics.
~So kiss me like you did
My heart stopped beating
Such a softer sin~
Ed had been on an assignment with Al, they were to look for info on the Homunculi and their connection to the Philosophers Stone. Al said that the day Ed disappeared; Ed had found something important. Al never found out what it was, because that very same day Ed disappeared.
You watch as the train starts to slowly fill up with people. A few sad faces, a few happy, a few placid, a few angered. Some military personal file onto the train. They’re smiling and laughing. But once they glance in your direction and see you and Al, their faces immediately fall and they become solemn.
Why do they always do that? Yes you are sad and maybe even depressed that Ed is gone but what you truly need is strong people around, people that would be able to make you laugh and maybe forget he’s gone.
But you’re surrounded by people that think you want to swim in the pain and hollowness that Ed left you in. A frown always upon your face, you wish for a change, but with how things are going, you doubt you’ll get one.
~(I’m melting, I’m melting)
In your eyes
I lost my place
Could stay a while~
The train starts up, slowly at first but gaining speed. At last it reaches its top momentum. You stare intently out the window at the fast flying scenes, it’s like a move only really fast, and with out any real plot, just a bunch of things put together and sped up.
Watching the scenes of Central fly by they finally disappear as the train leaves Central. Now it’s just open spaces of everything, desert, forests, water, and fields, the fields are your favorite to look at. They always have the yellow flowers, or should I say golden flowers that remind you so much of Ed.
Usually you would space off while looking out the window, but when a field full of golden flowers would pass you would watch it until it disappeared. Getting lost in the flowers just like how you got lost in Ed’s eyes.
Have you ever lost your place, not as in your place in line at the grocery store, or losing your place in a line to buy the tickets to your favorite bands concert? But have you ever lost your place in life? When the one thing that held whatever place you had dissolves into sand and flies away in the wind?
You wished that you could have stayed in that place for a little while longer, it was nice. But fate can sometimes have different plans and maybe what you thought was your place really wasn’t and what was your hold, never really held you at all.
~And I’m melting
In your eyes
Like my first time
That I caught fire~
Sighing you turn to look at Al. He reminds you of Ed in some ways, his hair is shorter than Ed’s, and a little darker, and his eyes were more of a chocolaty brown but they still brought some remembrance of Ed.
The way his eyes always glowed with life when he did something he loved, how he always had a shine to his hair, and even though some might say Al is the polar opposite of Ed some of Ed can be seen in Al.
You remember the first time you ever looked into Ed’s eyes; they reminded you of the sun. So bright and wonderful they made you feel like you were on fire. It was the first time you ever ‘Caught on Fire’ as you called it. It happened every time you looked into Ed’s eyes.
~Just stay with me
Lay with me
Now…~
You scoot closer to Al. You need to feel some comforting presence. You grab his arm, leaning up against it. You felt Al tense and look down at you. He doesn’t mind, you know for a fact, you just took him off guard.
He lowers his head down and gives you a kiss on the head, you’re like a sister to him, and he cares for you. You grip Al’s arm tighter, if you let go will he disappear like Ed did? You bury your face into Al’s arm and you shed a few tears, asking Al a silent question.
He won’t leave? Will he? Will you leave me Al? Will I be all alone?
“Don’t worry (y/n) I’m not going anywhere.” You lift your face off of Al’s arm and look up into his brown orbs and his smile. You know it’s not a real Al smile because it doesn’t reach is eyes but you can hear the truth behind his words.
~Never caught my breath
Every second I’m without you I’m a mess
Ever know each other~
The train finally reaches Reizembool. You had fallen asleep clutching Al’s arm. When Al shook you awake you were a mess, your hair was matted, and you could still see the tear stains that left the marks upon your face.
Sitting up straight you yawn and stretch your hands above your head. You look over to Al your hands still above your head. You see him yawning a little while standing up. Reaching his hand out to you in his gentleman way you grab it and give it a squeeze as he pulls you to a standing position.
~Trust these words are stones
Why cuts aren’t healing
Learning how to love~
After you had collected your luggage you and Al set off walking to Winry’s. You and Al walk in complete silence, your use to it though. Ever since Ed disappeared you and Al could never really keep a conversation together with out it coming back to Ed. It still hurt too much to talk about him so you decided to only talk when absolutely necessary. It was easier that way.
Ed always said he would never leave, he told you and Al repeatedly that he would never leave you. You and all trusted him, took in every word he said, believing he would never just leave you. But by the looks of things trusting some one can mean nothing when it comes to a promise like that.
Gone for more than three weeks, the wounds have yet to show signs of healing. If this kept up you would never be able to love again, you’d still be clutching on to the thin shred of hope that Ed will return.
~I’m melting (I’m melting)
In your eyes
I lost my place
Could stay a while~
While walking down the long dirt road to Winry’s you spot a Brown-eyed susan. Stopping you gently pick the flower smiling gently. The flower was like a combination of both worlds. Ed and Al, this flower held meaning to you.
The brown in the middle and the little brown on the petals reminded you of Al, his brown eyes and how he was always younger than Ed but still acted like the older one. The yellow petals reminded you of Ed, his eyes, his hair, how he was always the care free one that moved with the wind.
Al the stability in the middle, Ed the flowing free petals. That is why this flower meant so much to you. It had the people you loved summarized into one, beautiful, object. Though it may not last for long, it will come back, just like they did. Just not Ed, the last time.
~And I’m melting
In your eyes
Like my first time~
Twirling the flower between your pointer finger and thumb as you walked down the road. If you twirl it fast enough it looks like the colors are mixing together, forming the perfect bond. Just like Ed and Al’s bond.
You stop twirling the flower and just stare intently into golden yellow of the petals. What you wouldn’t give to look into Ed’s eyes, to just melt like you always did. His eyes were like liquid gold. And as gold needs to be melted to become liquid, looking into Ed’s eyes melted you to liquid.
~That I caught fire
Just stay with me
Lay with me
(Stay with me lay with me now)~
Can you believe the day Ed was to come back you were going to tell him how you really felt about him! Yeah you were going to confess your deepest darkest feelings to the man you loved and adored so much.
You wanted to be with him for the rest of your life, get married, have little Ed’s, and grow old together. Why did your plans always have to get screwed up? When you plan that far ahead, it seems that it’ll never go that way.
~You could stay and watch me fall
And of course I’ll ask for help
Just stay with me now
Take my hand~
You and Al finally reach Winry’s. Al knocks on the door waiting for someone to respond. You have to stay with Winry until you and Al get a home, seeing as neither one of you did have one.
You know Ed is probably up in heaven watching you and Al suffer. Just wallowing in your pain. He may not like it but that’s all he can do is watch as the people he loves suffers. Have you finally come to the realization that Ed is dead?
Most nights you pray. Getting down on your knees, your hands resting on the bed, bowing your head down. Praying to god that he brings Ed back, praying for god’s help in getting Ed back. But no matter how hard you prayed, you never got your wish, Ed.
~We could take our heads off
Stay in bed just make love that’s all
Just stay with me now~
The door opens to revel a very sad looking Winry. You know Winry is as sad as you, you think she loved Ed to. You can’t be sure, or maybe they were just really good friends. Not in much of a mode to worry about small things such as that, you follow Al into the house.
It’s late, so instead of staying up and talking Winry just shows you and Al to your rooms. Giving her a reassuring smile you open the door to your room and step in. Closing the door you set your bag down on the floor.
Walking to the bed, you get down on your knees and pray, like every night. Once you have finished your silent prayers you lift yourself up and strip off your jacket and shoes. And just lay down on the bed.
Surprising you is a picture of Ed, You, Al, and Winry all as little kids in a frame on the bedside table. You lift your head up slowly and just stare that the happy faces all of you wore. Snatch at the picture; you hold it close looking at the picture.
~I’m melting (I’m melting)
In your eyes
I lost my place
Could stay a while
And I’m melting~
You stare intently at the picture, well not really the picture per-say but more like one of the people in the picture. We all know who it is, smiling you stare at the picture, your eyes never leaving his eyes.
The ones that make you feel on fire, that fills you with a passion that you can’t describe, nor would you ever be able to. You loved the feeling, that’s why you wouldn’t take you eyes of his beautiful eyes.
Before you could melt into a puddle at the very base of the picture, you set it, face down, onto the night stand. Pulling yourself under the covers you rest your head on the pillow just staring at the adjacent wall.
Slowly you feel your eyelids tugging lower and lower. Sighing you give into sleep, seeing as it is the only place you can actually see Ed. That’s what you need, to melt all over again.
~In your eyes
Like my first time
That I caught fire
Just stay with me~
You can feel something burning on your eye lids, it stings. Wanting it to stop you open your eyes slowly, only to realize it’s the sun barring its bright rays upon you. Groaning you slowly sit up rubbing your eyes.
Putting your feet onto the cold wood floor, you stand stretching a little. Opening the door to your room you walk out into the hall. Yawning slightly you close your eyes as you grab the rail of the stairs.
Jumping the last step you reach the bottom. As you reach the bottom you can hear Winry’s hushed voice and another voice that you can’t recognize. You slowly walk towards the kitchen, and stand at the door listening to what Winry and this person are talking about. (a/n- Winry is <b>Bold[/b] and Person is Italics)
“So he’s in a house in town?”
“Yeah, you can go visit him, just don’t bring anyone else.”
“Where’s the house?”
“It’s the last one before the town ends, you can’t miss it.”
“Ok, I’ll visit him later”
“Good just remember do-“
“Don’t bring anyone, I know.”
“Ok. Then I think I should be on my way before she wakes up.”
“Yeah that may be a good idea”
As soon as you hear the sound of a chair moving, you quickly and quietly run and hide behind one of Winry’s many work stations. Peeking your head out slightly, you watch as a man walks out of the kitchen and to the front door.
He stops at the front door and looks toward where you’re hiding. You can’t move, if you do he’ll know your there. You stay as still as possible as he continues to watch the place your hiding.
He sets a piece of paper down on the table, by the door. He looks back to where you are hiding. He points to the note then directly at you. Your eyes widen as you realize, he knew you were there the whole time.
He opens the door walking out, giving you one last glance. You stand up slowly, looking out the window to make sure he’s gone. Seeing him walking far down the road, you grab the note, ripping it open.
Meet me later, you know where, don’t be late.
You stare at the paper, could it be? Suddenly you hear the sound of Winry leaving the kitchen. Shoving the paper into your pants pocket (a/n- you didn’t change from last night) you turn to Winry, giving her a smile.
When she enters the living room she looks a little surprised to see you. “Oh (y/n) what are you doing up so early?” she said sounding kind of nervous.
You smile sheepishly, “I just got up when I heard the door close.” You said trying to make it seem like you had heard nothing.
~Lay with me
In your eyes
I lost my place
Could stay a while~
Winry smiled, obviously buying your lie, and headed back upstairs to her room. You waited until you heard her door close and no movement from any other rooms. Smiling you take the note out of your pocket and stare at it.
Shoving it back into your pocket you quietly open the front door and step out onto the porch. Closing the door you take off running down the steps and onto the dirt road. The stones hurt your feet as you run but you don’t care just as long as you get there.
Running down the road you spot the place you’re suppose to meet this person. You run up the hill to the ruins of Ed and Al’s old home, and Trisha’s grave. You stop panting slightly as you reach the top of the hill.
Looking around you don’t see anyone around, you’re early. Smiling you take a seat on the ground by Trisha’s grave. You’ll wait; you want to know why this person wants to see you.
~And I’m melting
In your eyes
Like my first time
That I caught fire~
You sit there waiting for this person. You rest your head on Trisha’s grave stone as you wait. Maybe this wasn’t the place they meant. But then what place would they have been talking about?
While you sit and wait for this person to come, you notice a figure start to walk up the hill towards you. Standing up you watch the person walk up the hill, you can’t see their face; it’s hidden under a coat.
The mysterious person finally reaches the top of the hill, and turns to look at you. You still can’t see there face, they’re a little bit taller than you. The person is also wearing a red coat.
“Who are you?” you ask the mysterious person. The person just stares at you, not answering your question. Then all of a sudden they start to remove their hood that has been hiding their identity. You gasp.
~Just stay with me lay with me
(Stay with me, lay with me)~
Your eyes widen and your heart skips a beat. ‘It can’t be! It just can’t!’ you repeat over and over and over again in your head. You refuse to believe the person standing in front of you is really here.
“E-Ed?” your voice cracking under the sudden shock. You stare at the blonde haired, golden eyed boy before you, unable to do anything but breathe and blink in his presence. You just can’t believe he’s really here next to you.
“Yeah, it’s me (y/n)” when he says that sentence, you know he’s real. You know he’s not just something you dreamt up. Tears well up in your eyes as you launch yourself onto Ed. You wrap your arms around his neck, burying your head in his coat as you let lose all you’re stored up tears.
~In your eyes
Let’s sleep till the sun burns out
I’m melting in your eyes (I’m melting in your eyes)~
You look up at Ed, tears blurring your vision. Smiling you stare into his beautiful golden eyes. Again you melt into a puddle at his feet. Unable to control yourself, you kiss Ed gently, showing him how much you really missed him.
When you and Ed break away you can see Ed’s trademark smirk plastered across his face. You giggle lightly, happy that Ed is back. But you frown, why was Ed back? Didn’t he die? You step away from Ed and stare at him.
“Where were you Ed? We all thought you died! What happened?” you said firing out all the questions you had been dieing to ask. Ed sighs giving you a look.
“I disappeared on purpose, I came here to do more research on the philosopher’s stone, I didn’t want to get you and Al involved. It was too dangerous.” You smile sadly, so he disappeared for you and Al.
You walk back up to Ed and wrap your arms around his waist, staring into his eyes. Ed wraps his arms around your body, kissing the top of your head. You smile gentle up at him, just glad he’s back.
“I always melt in your eyes (y/n)” Ed says softly, still staring at you. You giggle and rest your head against Ed’s chest.
“Same here Ed, same here.”
