Disclaimer: I do not own beyblade nor do I own any song lyrics/artists mentioned in this chapter.
Thank you all for your wonderful reviews for the last chapter!
IMPORTANT NOTE: For those of you who have not yet seen the note written on my bio page, I will post it here and please read it as it concerns me and all of my fanfictions.
At the moment I am feeling a bit under the weather to say the least - okay so it's a huge understatement. I'm not depressed, I'm just sad because I just realized how pathetic some of my works are (and don't go trying to tell me they're not, please). Oh and just for the record: it has NOTHING to do with the amount of reviews I get, trust me, it's a personal realization and nothing more.
On the note above, I am seriously considering the fact that I may stop writing fanfiction and start focusing more on original works. Thus I will leave my completed one-shots up and finish the fics I am writing now (other than my beyblade cyoa...that's going on hold, until I get interested again and get off my lazy butt and rewrite the whole thing…in about 2013. Lol.) and then I will stop writing fanfiction. Don't get me wrong, I'll still be posting here, but it will be with original works and novels. Maybe someday, some year in the far away future I shall start writing fanfiction again, but only if I improve greatly. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
From Jacquie
Summary of the note above: I’m going to stop writing fanfiction once all of my stories are completed (minus my beyblade cyoa and hopefully by the end of 2005) as I’m moving onto original novels and works. I’ll be leave all of my fan works posted here and will be posting my original stuff up here as well (and fosff.net).
Chapter 5
*&*&*&*&*&*
You walked out of the beyblade stadium with your backpack flung over your left shoulder. You sighed, why couldn’t life be as simple as it was two years ago…back then all you had to worry about was winning your matches and living up to Kai’s training.
Yep, life had definitely gotten the best of you. That was for sure.
Back when the Bladebreakers existed, back when it was all for one and one for all. Back when you had friends you could count on. Ah the good old days, friends you could count on. You shook your head sadly as you arrived a street down from the stadium, at a luscious green park. A slight breeze whistled passed you as you dumped yourself onto a brown bench.
After doing this, you thought back, back to when the Bladebreakers had been created. Back to when you actually worked for BIOVOLT…
*~*~*~*~*
‘“Let’s give a big hand to the tournament champion, TYSON! And his worthy opponent KAI!” The crowd went completely nuts as you covered your ears and got out of your seat and headed for the empty hallway.
“May I present Japan’s next World Championship Team!” Jazzman continued to yell as you noticed a hyper blonde, followed by a kid wearing spectacles and carrying a laptop sprinting towards the stage. In which they glomped Tyson and immediately started yammering on about something – or so it looked like. The stadium was still so noisy; you couldn’t even hear your own voice.
You looked over at the team to see the two other members: a kid with long, black hair and a Chinese outfit (who was currently high-fiving Tyson) and Kai Hiwatari. The curse of your existence, oh yes, you knew him, all too well in fact. You weren’t related to him, but you both worked for the same idiot.
Typical Kai, standing five feet away not looking to care for what was happening around him. Though you might have been down there doing the same thing, were you in his shoes. Didn’t it just figure? You two were so similar that you couldn’t stand to put up with each other. Although you’d never tell anyone that, they’d put you in an asylum. You argued with each other so much, nobody in a million years would ever guess that you and Kai Hiwatari were anything alike. It was too much for the average human brain to handle.
You sighed to yourself as you got up from the hallway bench you had been sitting on, “Might as well get this over with.”
You walked to the last darkened storeroom on the left end of the stadium and quietly opened the door. “Ah, you made it, (your first name), good.” An eerily calm and low voice announced to you.
Your eyebrows immediately furrowed as your face contorted into a look of disgust – luckily it was dark and Voltaire Hiwatari couldn’t see you. You sensed his smirk, something was going on and it had something to do with your mission. You clutched Nakia self-consciously as you opened your mouth. “What is my mission?”
“‘What is my mission, sir.’” Voltaire corrected mimicking you; you growled mentally as he went on, “Make sure Kai doesn’t screw up.”
“What? My mission is to baby-sit a brat?” You snorted, “You’re kidding right? You know I’m above this kind of scrutiny!”
“Do it.” You could tell Voltaire had his teeth clenched now, as he hissed out a warning. No one ever defied him – normal people were too smart. It figured you’d be the one to test his patience. “Here.” A piece of paper slid along the floor and stopped at your black runners. “Give it to Kai it explains everything.”
“Fine, sir.” You mocked him in a girlish voice – why oh why couldn’t you just have a normal employer? I mean the last guy you worked for may have drunk too much, but at least he wasn’t an arrogant, and incompetent jerk! Wait…scratch that, he was, but he wasn’t as aggravating and as high and mighty as Voltaire. You had long ago seen where Kai got his ego from.
“Good girl.” A mocking voice came from Voltaire; obviously he was intent on playing the game. Well, at least it was your game, you’d be out of his employment after this mission and there would be nothing he could do about it. You’d bring the plan to the public’s attention and take off – as getting caught in the crossfire was never a good idea.
You walked quietly out of the storeroom, and closed the door as quietly as possible. You wouldn’t let him know he had gotten to you; never ever. You took a deep breath as you headed down the hallway that led to the stadium. Time to find Kai Hiwatari and the rest of his little team.
Well, on the bright side you got to travel the world for free, if the pipsqueaks could actually blade. You shook the thoughts out of your mind as all eyes turned to you as you entered the stadium – well this was a little unnerving.
“Who are you? Why are you here?” Tyson bounced up and threw question after question at you.
“That’s none of your concern and I’m supposed to deliver a message to Kai Hiwatari.” You glared at him, he might be a good blader but he was annoying.
“What do you want?” Kai asked crossing his arms as he strode over to you.
“Who is she, Kai?” Tyson asked his new team captain.
“Yeah, who?” Max echoed as Kai turned to them all.
“No one important – a messenger girl if you will.”
You glared at him and then smirked, “Nice to know you haven’t forgotten me. Grandfather sent you a letter – apparently I’m coming with you and not by choice.”
“You’ve got to be kidding me! First these guys and now you?” Kai said through gritted teeth, as his eyes scanned the page.
“I’m the baby-sitter – his words not mine. I’m supposed to make sure you don’t fail and take over if you do.” But once again, I’ve outwitted Voltaire, you added to yourself. You’ve given me the perfect shot at bringing down you AND your industry.
Kai snorted, “Like that’ll happen, but I guess I have no choice.”
“What’s this all about Kai?” Mr. thingyenson walked over to the two of you.
“We’ve got a sixth member and there’s no way we can leave her behind.”
“But Kai –” Mr. thingyenson interjected.
“Do you want a team captain or not? Because I can still back out…” Team captain? Argh! Voltaire failed to mention that Kai had been made team captain. This’ll do wonders to his ego, and I get to deal with it; joy.
“Alright, when you put it that way…fine.” Mr. thingyenson gave his permission.
“Come on, I’ve got to introduce you or those guys are going to drive us both insane with their assumptions. They don’t shut up.”
“And apparently neither do you.” You smirked as you followed him over to the four other boys who were chattering animatedly about something or other. Kai glared at you for your comment as everyone stopped talking on your approach. Geez, am I really that intimidating? You thought to yourself inwardly cheering. Years with Voltaire’s crew had obviously taught you a thing or two.
“Guys, she’s going to be traveling with us and it wasn’t by my choice. Oh and Tyson, enjoy your birthday, tomorrow we start training.” Kai stated as he walked off.
“Ooh scary.” You muttered, loud enough for him to hear as he ignored you and kept walking. “Typical.”
You planned on getting a glare out of him before he left the stadium and all you had to do was stand still and keep making remarks.
“Hey Kai, I thought you worked alone?” You sneered as he turned around, ah yes, arguing with Tala Valkov had done you some good after all.
“Shut up – you’re worse than them!” Kai turned around glaring heavily at you.
“Really? Well, I’ll congratulate myself, obviously I’ve hit a new record on the driving-Kai-from-sanity scale…though I suppose you were never quite sane in the first place…” You rambled incoherently and after getting yelled at by Kai once more, you shut up whilst grinning. Ah, it was so much fun to bug him.
You then walked across the stadium as Kai had done a few minutes ago and when you were half way across someone yelled out. You didn’t turn around, nor did you stop, you figured it was the four boys being idiots.
“Would you wait a minute, please?” You finally stopped, knowing that this comment was obviously directed at you. You whirled around, watching as the boy in the Chinese outfit walked towards you.
“Yes?” You asked with your eyebrows raised, you swore if they badgered you for information again you’d scream.
“We’d just like to know your name – I mean after all you’re traveling with us. And from what I saw, I don’t think Kai’s going to give it to us.”
“Tell me yours first and you’re right – Kai wouldn’t unless I specifically asked him not to.” You responded casually.
“I’m Ray, that’s Max, he’s Tyson, and he’s Kenny.” Ray introduced as he pointed to the three boys who had just reached you.
You nodded, “My name’s (Your first name) and before you ask, Kai and I are NOT friends.”
“So how do you know him?” Max’s curiosity over came him and it was not good for your sanity.
You heaved a sigh, “We work together, and that’s about it. If you’re finished your badgering I have to go. Knowing Kai, he’s got our cash and hotel room registration numbers.” You rolled your eyes, why Voltaire trusted Kai with things like that, you would never understand.
“Oh, why don’t you lighten up?” Tyson grinned at you and you shrugged.
“It was nice meeting you (Your first name).” Ray waved as you turned around and waved over shoulder.
“Goodbye.” Kenny called.
“See ya.” Was your only reply as you exited the stadium.
*~*~*~*~*
Little did you know that those ‘idiots’ as you had first termed them, would become your best friends. From the moment you were assigned that mission, fate twisted itself into immeasurable proportions and wreaked havoc on your life. So now Max hated you, not to mention Tyson and Kenny and it was most likely that Ray wasn’t too pleased with you either.
You sighed, life was just lovely, “Hiro.” And it just got better.
“Hello, Tala – what do you want?” You sneered, the redhead was definitely not the first person you wanted to see right now.
Tala shrugged and took a seat on the bench beside you. “Isn’t a guy allowed to take a walk around here without getting his head bitten off?”
You glared and turned to stare at a cherry tree a few feet away. Well, he was annoying. You knew people like him, didn’t just ‘take a walk’. Gah! The suspense was killing you. But no, you wouldn’t give in. Life may have gotten the better of you, but in no way possible would Tala Valkov; no way.
A few minutes of peaceful silence passed as your mind whirled around in different directions and eventually got you lost in your thoughts again.
“So what was your deal in there?” Tala’s voice interrupted your train of thought.
“Huh?” You turned to stare at him.
“Back in the stadium, what was your deal? Why’d you storm off like that?” Tala interrogated you.
You hadn’t seen him on your way out, and he wasn’t in the team room when you got back there. How’d he know?
“How’d you know about that? I didn’t see you.” You pretended to inspect a piece of dirt on the end of your nail. Keeping your eyes from giving you away was a trick you had long since mastered.
