Thank you all for your wonderful reviews for the last chapter! I’m very sorry I didn’t get this chapter up sooner…truthfully SetoKaibaObsessed’s reviews inspired me to write this, so go ahead and thank her (I certainly am)!
By the way this chapter is a lot more serious than the last one and a lot happens, but I’ll do my best not to confuse my readers out of their minds!
Chapter 6
*&*&*&*&*&*
You strutted triumphantly back towards the hotel, holding your backpack – almost as sign of victory. You sighed as you entered the hotel and stepped into the elevator; now for some well deserved peace and quiet. But what – or should I say who – met your eyes as you stepped into the seemingly quiet elevator threw you into quite a shock.
“(Your- Your first name)? Or I suppose it’s Hiiro now isn’t it?” The voice sounded surprised but there was definitely a bitter edge to it. You hurriedly hit the button that took you to your floor. You knew the voice, but you couldn’t place it, and you didn’t want to. Your mind went to work and in a few seconds you knew exactly who you were talking to.
“Kenny?” Your voice cracked slightly and you covered it up with a cough, you still hadn’t turned around from staring at the elevator buttons – they were a rather nice sight. You thought back to what had happened the last time Hiiro and Tala had run into BBA Revolution…it hadn’t been pretty and you had pulled a pretty nice impression of Tala off. You had to smirk, that had been extremely fun, but you did make the entire team hate you…was it really worth it?
Of course it was! You answered yourself, they’re my enemies, why should I care if they hate me or not?
But you do care about what Kenny thinks; the nice little voice came back and tried to start an argument.
I…I do. You admittedly replied, maybe I should apologize? Definitely not! Hiiro shot down the idea before you even had a chance to think over it. Truthfully you were feeling so guilty that your stomach was in your shoes. I can’t show it! Think of your pride, Hiiro! You reminded yourself angrily. How you could have come as close as you did to betraying yourself and your team. Becoming friends with the enemy was against regulations and you knew it all too well.
After a few seconds of silence, Kenny spoke up again, “(Your first name), why won’t you come back to the Bladebreakers? Why can’t everything just be the same as it was before?”
At this point you could stand it no more, you whirled around to face your former-friend and it was all you could do to hold back tears as you saw his pleading expression. You took a deep breath and put on your mask as you began your act. “What Bladebreakers? In case you have forgotten, that team split up. They no longer exist and neither do the friendships.” You had to keep your eyes from widening. You couldn’t believe you had just said that. You couldn’t have! But I did…maybe the Blitzkrieg Boys are having an effect on me. Maybe I am changing…it used to be a façade but now everything seems so real, it seems as if I’m actually turning into a cold hearted jerk. It was then that the reality of it all hit you; no, it didn’t just hit you, it pulverized you into a sniveling little pulp. At that exact moment the elevator door slid open to your floor and you flung yourself out of it, your stomach was in your shoes and your heart hung heavily with the anger, regret and guilt that flooded your entire being. You turned to Kenny, on the verge of tears and in a slightly cracked tone said, “I’m sorry.” With that you ran down the hall and you could hear footsteps running after you.
I can’t be seen as weak! I can’t! But I can’t take it anymore, not at all…what’s become of me? What’s become of (Your first name)?
She’s dead and gone. You’re Hiiro now, act like it! The little voice commanded you in a slightly superior way, the same way that always seemed to win in your ‘arguments’.
I CAN’T! You almost shouted aloud, you were breaking down, you were about to cry and you were so sick of everything. You had made the mistake of leaving BBA Revolution, breaking up all of your friendships and running to the evil Boris, and all in the name of power and strength. And look at where it had gotten you. Now as everything was catching up to you in the long run, you had nowhere to turn and no one to run to. Hiiro Takanaki had turned you into a selfish jerk and (Your first name) was almost gone or she was suffocating quickly.
What had happened? Why? Why was I such an idiot? Tears fell from your eyes as you reached your hotel room, ignoring the ever sounding footsteps that came from behind you. You slid your key card through the lock and ran in, not caring in the least bit that you had left the door wide open. Tears were now streaming down your face as you hurried into the bathroom and blew your nose in a tissue. After throwing the tissue away you wondered back into the main room and flung yourself down on the extremely comfortable bed, drowning the burgundy pillows in more water than you were sure they had seen in their lifetime.
You tried to stop your crying and soon you were just sniffling pitifully as you heard a voice that you had never expected to hear again. “(Your first name)!” Kenny’s pitying voice reached as his footsteps approached the bed.
A muffled ‘go ‘way’ was heard from the pillow as you tried to stop your sniffles. You looked pathetic, and weak and – AND I DON’T BLOODY CARE ANYMORE! You shouted to the voice inside your head. You were so sick of having to listen to that little voice and the mental army that had captured your mind and you were so sick of hearing the name Hiiro and you were sick of your screwed up life.
Which you managed to screw up, it’s your entire fault, you should at least have the shame to admit that, the voice reminded you, and if it were real, it would have been cackling evilly right about now.
“Oh, (your first name)…” You heard as you took a deep breath and pulled yourself into a comfortable sitting position on your bed. Your eyes were still wet and puffy from the tears but at least you weren’t crying anymore, you were embarrassed enough as it was.
“I’m so sorry, Kenny.” You stated trying to hide the shame and weakness beneath your vacant expression, because somehow, it was as if he could see right through you. A rather scary thought, really scary in fact. Your whole life you had hidden behind that impenetrable and vacant expression when you couldn’t take it anymore and needed to hide from the world. But now, now someone was breaking through it – not even Hilary had been able to do that!
The only question running through your head was: what does this mean?
“It’s okay,” As his soothing voice reached your ears and waves of relief washed over you. If you could hear that from the rest of the Bladebreakers, whatever teams they may be on, it would make your day.
“Thank you,” You said as you finally looked up from the comforter and into his eyes. A hopeful glance in his eyes told you that there was something else and the air through out the room slowly became heavy with a silence that almost seemed unbreakable.
“(Your first name), I – I know what I wanted to say to you the day you left…” Kenny told you hesitantly, he was nervous beyond belief, you could see it in his eyes.
“Yes?” You asked softly and slightly doubtful; you weren’t sure what he was going to say but having said that it would seem that you were equally as nervous. Your heart was pounding so loud, you were sure he could hear it although he gave off no indication.
“I,” You gave him a nod of reassurance and at that moment he just seemed to burst, “I never wanted you to leave the team! Honestly! I never wanted you to! I – I just didn’t know how to handle it and – and it’s ‘cause I.” This is where he stopped short and you just sat there, unsure of how to handle the situation. Thus you waited for him to continue; and continue he did, in a small and uncertain voice, “I like you.”
WHAT? Bells and whistles went off all over your brain as you absorbed the shock of his words. He what? You could have screamed. You went to all the trouble to switch teams, become more powerful and the one person, who could have saved you having to learn your entire life’s lesson at age (your age), was the one person who hadn’t said anything due to unconfidence?! Argh!
You looked over to Kenny, as a sorrowful realization passed over you. You couldn’t. You couldn’t say you liked him back – the boy you had cherished for so long and you couldn’t like him back! You closed your eyes, ready to start crying again, right then and there.
You thought over your situation, you were having mixed feelings and it was time you faced the truth. You had feelings for someone else – why?! Why does fate hate me? Why did I have to fall for that jerky red-head? Why! Your expression turned to one of anger, hate and sorrow all directed at yourself. You still had feelings for the boy in front of you and your logical side told you that you would get farther with him than you ever would with Tala. I don’t even know if Tala likes me back and yet I still can’t make a decision. Why am I so d**n pathetic? A tear drop fell from your eye as you stared at Kenny.
“Kenny, you have to know something.” And with that you began to cry as Kenny hesitantly embraced you and you hugged him back with your heart pounding a mile a minute. You knew that nothing you could ever truthfully say would save your friend from a broken heart. The guilt was worth than it ever had been before now and you wondered what Tala or Kai would say if they knew what was happening inside of you.
Weakling. That’s what they’d say.
“The day I left BBA Revolution.” You paused to try and calm your tears down and then, a moment later, continued, “The day I left BBA Revolution, I was in love with you.” You stopped as you let the words sink into both his soul and yours. The past tense was so painful you almost cried out again, but stopped yourself as you realized that if it was painful for you it must have been torture for Kenny. “When I joined the Blitzkrieg Boys, I still liked you but for some reason, these past few weeks have…” You trailed off not knowing how to describe it.
Kenny’s indescribably small and sorrowful voice broke the short silence, “Have what?”
“I don’t know what to think about anything anymore, much less my feelings. My emotions are a jumbled mess and I don’t know which way is up for heaven’s sake! All I’m saying is: I need a little time. I need some time to get my life in order; I need to figure out what I’m going to do about this whole mess and I don’t want to make any decisions in my current state.” By your last sentence you were almost crying again and had Hiiro not existed you would have been bawling your eyes out through your entire speech. Maybe you had become slightly stronger through out this entire mess…just maybe.
A few moments later you dared to look up at Kenny’s expression. It was sad, but somehow he seemed to understand. A quiet ‘alright’ echoed through out the room as he turned to leave your hotel room.
“Thank you.” You called out to him as he looked back at you and smiled to a small extent. With that he was gone; you walked over to the nearest wall and banged your head against it. What kind of idiot were you anyways?
“An idiot that screwed up her life majorly, that’s what kind.” You muttered aloud as you banged your head for a second time against the wall and heard someone walk through the open door. You snuck a peak at the alarm clock two inches away from you. It was four o’clock. Had you really been crying that long? Two hours had passed and that surprised you. Four o’clock. Why was that significant? Oh that’s right…Kai and the others should be back right about now – the match had finished at three-thirty pm.
“What?” Well speak of the devil… The fore mentioned person walked into the hotel room. Kai Hiwatari. You weren’t exactly happy to hear him – it meant you would have to answer and in your present state you were sure you would blurt everything out.
“Never mind,” You stated as coldly as you could, why couldn’t Hiiro take over at the times he was needed? Why? I seem to be asking that question a lot lately, you noted to yourself. Realizing this, you came up with only one answer: Fate hates me. Period.
“Fine.” You sighed mentally; there were times when you were so thankful that Kai minded his own business!
A few moments of silence passed as Kai broke the silence in asking you a simple yet nerve-racking question. “Why the sudden change in calling Valkov, Tala?”
This, you did not need, you didn’t need an interrogation right now, you just needed your right mind. Shall I start acting like Hiiro again? You wondered.
No. Hiiro Takanaki has caused enough trouble. He is gone for good. You made your decision as you began to plot how you could annoy Tala now that you could act like your real self again; which brought you back to Kai’s question. Why did you call him Tala? Was it a sign of respect, maybe? Or was it the fact that you liked him? Whatever it was, it just sort of happened.
Thus you gave your friend a vague but truthful answer, “I don’t know.”
“Hiiro…” Kai almost growled, obviously the match had not gone well, or his mood was worse than usual, whatever it was, it didn’t make him much happier. “I want the truth.”
“That is the truth!” You protested as you lay back down onto your bed and picked up the current novel you happened to be reading.
“Well it isn’t all of it! What happened between you and Valkov?” Kai was growing impatient and you were at a loss for what to do.
“Is it any of your business? Why do you care so much Kai? You never used to…” You trailed off as a few theories hit you…unfortunately none of them seemed very Kai-like to you. You recited them over and reasoned with each one of them, they were all plausible, just not Kai-like. A) Kai’s being an overprotective friend. That one could be true, but he’s never seemed to care before – especially when it had to do with me and Kenny. Wait, did he ever know I liked Kenny? Stay on track, (Your first name), you ordered yourself. B) He has some kind of feelings for me. Very implausible, but all the same possible, you had to admit to yourself. C) He wants to know because he’s simply curious. Out of all of your mental theories (in more ways than one), C) stood out the most and A) came in second. B) You decided to throw out completely.
“Yes, it’s my business. You’re my teammate.” He stated, you looked at the expression on his face and immediately could tell that this conversation wasn’t going in the direction he wanted it to.
“Oh is that all? Thanks, I feel really loved.” You had to smirk, if there was one trait you had kept whilst switching to your fake personality, it had been your ability to use sarcasm in any situation. “If you want a non-vague answer out of me for that question first you have to tell me why you want to know – in a non-vague way. Use it or lose it.” You told him whilst watching his eyes bulge from their sockets – in a metaphorical manner of course. This wasn’t the Hiiro he knew – from the way you were acting it was almost as if you were the person you were before you joined the Blitzkrieg Boys and became Hiiro Takanaki – the one and only (Your full name).
“Who…are you?” Were the first words out of Kai’s mouth as you continued to smirk. You may have been the quiet one on the Bladebreakers but whenever you broke lose, everyone had learned to watch out.
A feeling flew through you, it satisfied you and it made you want to laugh. Joy. You hadn’t felt it since the Bladebreakers split up. What had happened and why were you like this? Your entire life was still a sideways mess but somehow it seemed that (Your full name) was back in business and ready to straighten everything out.
Yeah, right, the cynical voice muttered in the back of your mind and immediately tried to take over. That’ll never happen, no one will ever forgive you, you’ve screwed up majorly and we both know it’s impossible to change the past. Give it up and continue on with being Hiiro Takanaki. It urged on and as you fought on with it, you watched Kai’s expression change more times in one minute than it ever did in an entire year. It was an interesting spectacle that it was.
“Hn. Who do you think?” You muttered, obviously your dark side had won out and much to your dismay there was something holding you back from overpowering it. That thing was questions.
What would Kai think? Would Tala still associate with you? Would it make your life worse, like the little voice said? Reverting back to your former self would take a huge chunk out of the normalcy level in your life and currently it wasn’t that high to begin with. A second later, a single thought left you in a standstill.
What if reverting back to (Your full name) was the only way to turn your life around?

A/N: Well, Chapter 6 is complete. I know it was probably kind of confusing with the whole split personality bit and all, but that’s the story. If you’re confused please tell me in a review and I will try and explain it to the best of my ability (although I don’t know how great that will be…I did write the chapter to the best of my ability too. T_T. lol). So yeah, tell me what you thought and please tell me if you thought everyone was in character…except the reader. She doesn’t really seem to have a character anymore, does she?
Thank you all for your wonderful reviews for the last chapter! I’m very sorry I didn’t get this chapter up sooner…truthfully SetoKaibaObsessed’s reviews inspired me to write this, so go ahead and thank her (I certainly am)!
