Dreams Weren’t Meant To Come True
“(Your first name)!” A chipper voice was heard calling your name. You ignored Owen as you continued to run up a tree, getting higher every time. You had been doing this non-stop – and I mean non-shop, no meals and no breaks – for eight hours straight.
Your two teammates had stopped four hours ago. You were all still genins (and just out of the academy as well) but you were determined to graduate to the title of a chunnin next year and thus were training this early for the chunnin exams.
Your goal was to become the world’s best ninja and as such you subjected yourself to merciless training each day. You weren’t going to settle for the title of Hokage – no you were going to become better than that! Let Naruto keep his title and recognition, you had thought to yourself the minute you had heard the boy proclaim such a thing at the top of his lungs, I will do better than that and remain a mystery.
Back to training, you took another vertical run up the tree and hit the tree with your kunai – good but not good enough, only four feet above the last one, you told yourself. You flipped back down to the ground and kept at it, until a blue haired boy came out of the bushes.
“(Your first name), you’ve been doing this all day, take a break or you’ll wear yourself out!” Worry was evident in Owen’s voice and he was one of your teammates from your genin group. Owen was the self-conscious twit of the team, but when it came to his teammates, he could be more dramatic than Uo – and that was saying something.
“Yeah (Your first name), stop already! You’ll die!” A frantic pitchy female voice shouted to you. Ah yes, and that would Uo, the over-dramatic one of the team. Okay so maybe she was more dramatic than Owen…
“Come on, (your first name), it’s already eight pm. You’ve been out here since six am training.” Owen told you. Was it really that early still? You hadn’t checked the time all day – you sighed, three more hours and then you’d go in. I’ve got to improve my chakra!
“I’ll be finished late. Go home.” You told your teammates as you took another vertical run up the tree and managed to make the peak of it.
“ELEVEN? You’re kidding! You’re insane (your first name)!” Uo’s voice was loud and shrill.
You sighed, and ignored her, as she and Owen turned away, but you caught the expression on her face. Hurt, hurt beyond belief. She’s such a drama queen, you sighed as you continued your training.
Owen sighed, “Alright, don’t get yourself killed; come on, Uo. There’s no changing her mind once she’s made it up.”
You smirked, “Now you’re getting it.” With this you ran back up the tree and onto one of the highest branches. You sat up there and latched upside down onto the branch. So now you were hanging upside down completely by your feet, in a bat like stance. You then started to do crunches, whilst hanging upside down…it was hard.
Your eyelids started to droop as you shook yourself awake and continued your exercises. You had been training like this for about half a year now, you had hardly been eating as exhaustion over powered you and while you knew this was not healthy, you became stronger and able to go with out food for days at a time. By this time you had not eaten a thing all week although you did drink water on occasion to keep your body going.
Suddenly everything began to swirl and you started to fall. You prepared yourself to flip and land out on the ground; unfortunately you missed and landed on your butt. Yes, so much for chakra and stamina – your body and your mind were both completely gone at the moment.
No! You screamed to yourself, you had to keep going, giving up was never an option. Just finish these last two hours, (your first name), you can make it, you told yourself. If this was a mission I’d be soo dead by now, you reminded yourself, which was why you had to continue training.
“Hey!” An unfamiliar voice met your ears as you forced yourself to whirl around and take a defensive stance. Blond hair, blue eyes, loud voice – Naruto. It figures. What is he doing here at this time of night? Your mind questioned suspiciously.
“What?” Your eyebrows furrowed, what was he up to? He didn’t have a reason to be out here at what was probably nine pm now.
“Why are you still out here (your first name)?” His loud and curious voice must have been heard in China, or at least you thought so.
You rolled your eyes, “I could ask you the same question.”
“Heh, I’m heading in, I was sparring with Sasuke. Now what are you doing out here? I saw Uo and Owen heading in a while back.” Well that would explain the blood and bruises all over his arms and his face.
“Training. Which I must complete, so leave me be.” You told him as you summoned the chakra you had re-gathered while holding conversation with him and raced up a taller tree – about ten feet taller than the one you had completed.
“Whoa!” Naruto’s voice was heard from down below. “You’re fast!”
A blur flipped back down from the tree and you emerged five feet from Naruto. You flipped backwards so that you were approximately twenty feet from him. “You’re leaving right? Or are you here to spar?” You put your kunai back into your pocket.
Why wouldn’t everybody just leave you alone? Why couldn’t you train in peace, with nobody there, with nothing around! That would be a dream world! Nobody but you around to bother you. Nothing that would hinder your train of thought or your training exercises…ah how I wish that was how it was. Forever and ever and ever.
“I’m leaving, I figured you might want some company though – how long have you been out here anyways?” Naruto watched as a blur ran up and down trees and then an explosion from the top of a tree was heard as the top caught fire.
“(Your first name)?” You heard faintly Naruto’s voice. You were in the middle of the tree you had lit on fire. You had intended to escape, but as luck would have it, your body collapsed before you had a chance. The heat intesified and you tried to take in a deep breath while calming yourself down. Unfortunately that resulted in you hacking beyond reason.
No, I can’t stay here. I’ll die. You groaned, as you tried to push yourself up, from the branch, which was slowly burning up. You gritted your teeth as you rolled yourself to the edge of the branch and fell off of it, your shirt had some definite burns on it, and your skin also did. The air pressure you acquired while falling put out most of the smoldering flames on your clothes.
You breathed in the cool air as your eyes closed on impact with something.
~Never thought it would be me
Living in a shattered dream
How could this be, inform me?~
“(Your first name)… (Your first name)… (Your first name)…” Your name was called; someone was calling you a voice you could not recognize.
You opened your eyes and looked at your blurry surroundings. Where am I? What was going on? You stared; you were lying on your back, on something cushy. Around you everything was a blur, and the first person you were able to make out was Uo.
‘Uo!’ You tried to shout, but nothing moved and no sound came out. You saw her, she was kneeling in a surrounding which appeared to be a forest, crying. You heard her weeping, loud and clear and nothing else. What was going on? You then heard her speak.
“Why, (Your first name)? Why couldn’t you see it all? All you had around you? Your life! How could you become so obsessed with training? Were your friends not at all important to you? What happened to you?” Uo’s cries hung heavily over you as you watched her fade as another figure appeared.
‘Owen…’ your voice box still did nothing. The light blue haired boy, with soft magenta eyes sat underneath a cherry tree. Ah that’s right, the one right next to the cemetery. The place you loved to go before you had started training; it had always been so peaceful there.
The boy’s magenta eyes watered with tears as they began to spill. “(Your first name), where did you go? What happened to make you hate me so much? Why did you start ignoring Uo and I? Where did we go wrong?”
‘OWEN!’ You tried to scream as he and the cherry tree faded into the distance and you tried to intake a breath…you couldn’t.
Why can’t I breathe? Wait, how am I staying alive? You thought back to the last memory before you had ended up in what you had currently dubbed the twilight zone.
There was fire I set in a tree, in order to train myself on how to get out of it…I couldn’t move then either…I rolled off the limb of a branch and fell for a few seconds…and then this happened…
You laid there. Just laid there. Nothing moved, nothing happened. What was wrong with Uo and Owen? The thought crossed your mind. What did I do? What? I know Uo is a drama queen and Owen is a self-conscious twit, but what made them so upset?
A globe appeared in the midst of all the clouds, you stared up at it as the clouds began to swirl around you. In the globe appeared your teammates, your memories of the academy and your deepest desires, all rolled into one…
*~*~*~*~*
“Team Ten: Sakri Uo, Ambe Owen, (your last name) (Your first name)!”
“Yes!” Owen high fived Uo who was right beside him.
“Alright!” She cheered as she turned around to a younger version of you and you grinned at her.
Your two best friends were on your team! Could it get better? The twelve year old you through her a grin.
*~*~*~*~*
You didn’t smile anymore; no, it interfered with your goals in that you knew on a real mission, laughter gave away a position, as did any noise. It also would eventually make you too happy and thus you wouldn’t take anything seriously. You knew that from having lived with yourself since your life began.
Was that part of the reason Owen and Uo were crying? No…maybe, your thoughts drifted back to where you were. Why were you here? What had happened to you, or rather earth?
What began all of this…it was something to do with your training that much you were sure of. Why couldn’t everything go back to normal? Why were you stuck in this…this…well bunch of clouds, for lack of a term? What happened to me? Why can’t I move? Why are all of these memories coming back to me? Your mind gave up all its questions, and every memory buried in its depths…
*~*~*~*~*
The door opened and in walked a cheerful blond boy. You looked at him, and watched him walk over to Sasuke. He began to fight with him, as Sasuke got all the attention. A younger version of you smiled at this. He was cute. Not Sasuke, but the other boy. Who was he?
You walked over to him, “I don’t believe we’ve met. I’m (your full name), what’s yours?”
The boy grinned and replied happily and loudly, “Uzumaki Naruto! And I’m gonna be Hokage someday!”
You smiled, “That’s cool!”
*~*~*~*~*
The first time you met your current crush, Naruto. You liked him, not that you’d ever admit that to anyone. Not even Owen and Uo knew. Of course you didn’t have a chance and you had shoved that memory and the thought of the boy himself, to the back of your mind. You hadn’t thought about him, it inflicted damage on your concentration to training as did Uo and Owen…
*~*~*~*~*
“What? What do you mean you can’t come with us, (your first name)?” Uo’s voice questioned in a sad but curious tone.
“I have to train.” You had replied a week earlier in a quiet and serious tone. As you were turning away from her and Owen you explained more. “If I am ever to accomplish my dream, I must devote time to it. You should understand that much.”
“But (your first name)! You’ve been training non-stop for the past week!” Owen’s objective voice carried reason and worry.
“Your point?” You asked while finishing up your morning meal – the first one since two days ago.
“You need a break – training this hard and this long is not good for you. You’ll hurt yourself if you’re not careful.” Owen and Uo weren’t yet aware of your eating habits and thus thought you were fine, but that you pushed yourself too hard.
“I can’t afford a break. I am going to accomplish my goal and I’ll do whatever it takes. Have fun.” You stated monotonously as you walked out the door and ran for the forest. Today’s training was going to harder than yesterday’s had been.
*~*~*~*~*
You rejected your friends time and time again, for your training, and only sought their companionship when needing a sparing partner. This hadn’t seemed wrong to you at the time, but now, you were giving it a little more thought.
I did that? No, I didn’t. You inwardly fought with yourself and that voice.
[You were an idiot, admit it (your first name), you threw everything away to try and accomplish a goal which would be un-accomplishable.]
I was training; they knew that, they understood.
[Are you sure about that?] A voice from out of nowhere came – it was that same voice that had called your name. Who or what gave it out?
[They would have said something otherwise.
They did. You didn’t listen; you just ignored them.]
Did not.
[Yes you did. You totally and completely shunned and ignored them. Your precious training was worth more than your own life.]
